This assumes that “the value of the time and effort taken by householders to separate recyclables is equivalent to the benefit they derive from recycling”. In the absence of any other information this may be the best assumption to make. <BR/><BR/>That said, the sceptic in me wonders about an information failure, wherein: numerous people recycle because they think it is a good thing to do but are unaware that for many recycled items the resource costs of recycling probably outweigh the benefits. If they were better informed, they might be more reluctant to voluntarily sort recyclables - and this would be a rational thing to do.<BR/><BR/>Any thoughts?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
