On Iraq

The New York Times provides a sombre State Department report on the stability of the various provinces of Iraq and an informed commentary. Not optimistic - the sitation with respect to lack of civil order is bad in most provinces and unemployment very high everywhere outside the Kurdish regions. The problems in the south around Basra surprisingly bad.
